My work is rooted in a deep belief that everything carries meaning. There are no minor things, no overlooked corners of life unworthy of attention. Painting is, for me, an act of noticing.
Working from life is an essential part of my practice. From plein air painting and life model sessions to sketching urban scenes, the ever-changing, dynamic nature of a live subject demands full presence. It slows me down, sharpens my focus, and reveals details I would otherwise miss. This immediacy is something I seek out. I paint fast, embrace spontaneity, and welcome the challenge of capturing a fleeting moment before it disappears.
Watercolor is my medium of choice precisely because it rewards this approach. It requires upfront planning and timely execution, leaving little room for hesitation. Within those constraints, I find a freedom that comes from working decisively. I strive for paintings that carry a positive, uplifting mood.
Composition and realism are central to my practice, as is a willingness to experiment with painting subjects from unusual angles, exploring new ideas encountered through travel, and finding inspiration from the masters, past and living.
Moving to the Pacific Northwest deepened my practice in ways I could not have anticipated. The landscape here opened the door to plein air painting. Alongside it, years of life drawing have given me a stronger understanding of the human form and the characters I love to portray. Every journey, every session, every sketch is part of an ongoing commitment to becoming the strongest artist I can be, and to this craft I have devoted myself fully.
